Home MenuLeaf Collection
Each fall our Public Works crews collect leaves from Village streets. Leaf collection continues until the leaves stop falling.
- Property owners should rake leaves into the street for pick up after fall hydrant flushing is completed, which ends in late October. Until then, you may store your leaves on the grass behind the curb or you can take them to the yard waste site.
- Spread piles out along the length of the property, rather than in one large pile, and do not place so far into the street that they interfere with two-way traffic.
- Care should be taken to not block storm drains to help prevent street flooding.
Accepted Materials: Please only pile leaves at the curb for collection. Grass, plants, branches, sticks, pumpkins and other similar organic materials are not accepted as part of this curbside program. These items clog our leaf vacuuming system and cause delays in service delivery. Please help keep our crews moving efficiently throughout the Village by only putting leaves at the curb for collection.
Homeowners wishing to dispose of leaves prior to the start of the annual leaf collection, can take them to the Yard Waste Collection Site at the Woodland Nature Preserve (N72W22924 Good Hope Road). A Yard Waste Pass or Punch Card is required.
The attached map shows the collection areas. Our goal is to collect the leaves from each home every two weeks during the leaf collection period. We will announce when the crews are preparing to start their final pass through the Village.
We use a Tink Bucket operation in wet and freezing conditions. This operation is messier than the leaf vacuums, but allows us to make progress in inclement weather when we haven't been able to in the past. We continue to use the leaf vacuums when possible.
