The Building Inspection Department is responsible for reviewing plans, issuing permits, and completing inspections for new construction and alterations of commercial and residential buildings, the installation of plumbing, electrical, HVAC and miscellaneous building projects.  Our office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.  The Building Inspection Department is closed on Fridays.

Permits

The Village of Sussex has launched an online building permits portal!  This portal provides residents and contractors 24/7 access to submit permit applications, upload drawings and plans, pay for permit fees, and get inspection results online. Visit our new Community Portal to get started today!  Please note, that the portal is not live for all permit types.  All new construction building permits for both residential and commercial/industrial should still be submitted via paper application.

Permit applications are also available on our Forms & Permits page.  Permit applications can still be submitted in person at the Civic Center, via mail, using the drop box inside the front doors of the Civic Center, or you may email your application.  Permit applications can take up to 10 business days to be reviewed and approved.

Not sure if your project requires a permit?  Visit our When Do I Need a Permit? page or contact the Building Department.

New Construction One and Two-Family Homes

All new construction one and two-family Wisconsin Uniform Building Permits must be filed electronically with the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) to comply with Act 211.  Please access the Electronic Safety and Licensing Application (eSLA) to file your new home building permit application electronically.  You do not need to create an account to submit a permit in eSLA - just click on Uniform Dwelling Code Permits at the top of the page to access the online building permit system.  In addition to filing electronically with the State, please submit all the required information in the New Home Permit Packet directly to our office.
