Date of Incorporation: September 12, 1924 (Sussex-Templeton joined together to become the Village of Sussex.)

Form of Government: The Village of Sussex is governed by a Village President, six Village Trustees and Village Administrator form of government. The Village President and six Village Trustees are members of the Village Board. Each position is elected at large. This means every Village Board member serves the entire Village and not any one segment of the community. The President and Trustees are elected to two-year terms, with three Village Trustees being elected in even years and the other three Village Trustees and the Village President being elected in odd years. The Village Board makes the policy decisions for the Village and establishes the goals it wants accomplished.

The Village Administrator is appointed by the Village Board and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Village. The Administrator implements the policy decisions of the Village Board. The Administrator also develops and presents a budget to the Village Board each year for their review and adoption. The Administrator brings with them the expertise of local government management to assist in carrying out the Village Board’s policies.
