A Park for Today — and for Generations to Come
Village Park is at the heart of Sussex, and we’re continuing to invest in the park to make it an even better place to gather, play, celebrate and enjoy the outdoors.
The Village Park Master Plan is a long-term vision for improvements throughout the park. Several major projects have now been completed, while work continues on the next phase of the plan.
The Fields at Village Park
The next phase of the Village Park Master Plan is underway.
The Village Board has approved the construction of The Fields at Village Park, a new five-field baseball and softball complex on approximately 18 acres acquired by the Village in late 2025.
The Fields will include:
- 5 lighted fields
- A main stadium field with seating
- Two 300-foot all-around fields
- Two 200-foot all-around fields
- A concessions and restroom facility
- Batting cages and dugouts
The project is designed to replace the existing Village Park fields while creating a new destination for athletes, families and spectators.
The Village plans to bid the project in early 2027, with the bulk of construction anticipated to begin in spring 2027. The current goal is to have the complex ready for play by late 2028.
Building the Future of Play
The Fields represent another significant step in the long-term vision for Village Park. Once complete, the complex will provide additional opportunities for baseball and softball programming while creating a gathering place for families and the broader community.
The Village is also offering opportunities for businesses and organizations to become founding sponsors of The Fields. Sponsorship opportunities range from individual features within the complex to larger naming and complex sponsorship opportunities.

The Ridge at Village Park
Now open and available for rentals!
The Ridge officially opened on July 1, 2026, with a grand opening and ribbon cutting celebrating the newest gathering space in Village Park.
Built into the park’s natural ridgeline, The Ridge offers views across Village Park and provides a flexible space for both community events and private gatherings.
The facility includes:
- Approximately 2,000 square feet of indoor rental space
- A concession area
- More than 8,500 square feet of outdoor event space
- A covered outdoor stage
- Parking to support the facility, with additional grassy areas available for larger events
Since opening, The Ridge has already become a hub for community activity, hosting events including the Golden Summer Social for adults 50+, National Night Out and Game On! Sussex.

Honoring a Legacy: Kolesari Way at the Parks Maintenance Facility
As part of the improvements to Village Park, the new roadway serving the new Parks Maintenance Facility and future main parking lot has been named Kolesari Way in honor of Gabe Kolesari.
Kolesari retired in 2009 following a 29-year career with the Village, including serving as Parks Foreman. A dedication was held with Gabe and members of his family present to recognize his years of service and contributions to the Sussex community.
The roadway will carry his name as a lasting tribute to the work he did to help maintain and improve Sussex's parks.
The new Parks Maintenance Facility is now operational and provides the Village’s Parks & Recreation team with a modern, functional space to maintain and store the vehicles, equipment and materials needed to care for Sussex's parks.
