Fall Brush Collection Moved Up to Help with Storm Cleanup

The Village of Sussex is working to help residents impacted by Tuesday night's storms clean up storm-related brush and debris. While the storm damage was not widespread enough to warrant a separate Village-wide storm debris collection, the Village is moving up the start of its fall brush collection to September 8 to provide residents with an earlier opportunity to dispose of storm-related brush.

Following a post-storm assessment, the Village identified the Canyon Meadows Subdivision, Maple Avenue, and Clover Drive as areas that experienced a majority of the storm damage. Crews will begin the fall brush collection in these areas before continuing throughout the Village.

Fall Brush Collection Schedule & Requirements

Collection will begin on Tuesday, September 8, and will continue until crews have completed one full pass through the Village. Residents should have their brush at the curb by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. Because crews will make only one pass, brush placed out after crews have already passed an area will not be collected.

Residents in Canyon Meadows, along Maple Avenue, and along Clover Drive are especially encouraged to have their brush out by 7 a.m. on September 8, as crews will begin collection in these areas.

• Set-Out Deadline: Residents must have their brush at the curb by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8.
• Single Pass: Crews will make only one pass through the Village. Items placed out after crews have already passed will not be collected.

Important Brush Requirements

• Due to equipment limitations, the Village can only collect trees and branches that are 8 inches or less in diameter and 8 feet or less in length.

• Root balls will not be collected.

• Leaves and grass clippings are not accepted.

Yard Waste Site

Residents who need an alternative option for disposing of eligible yard waste can use the Village's Yard Waste Site.

Hours of Operation:

• Saturdays (April through mid-November): 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

• Mondays (September–October): 3–6 p.m.

The site is closed on Labor Day and other designated holidays. The last day of the season is the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

An annual Yard Waste Site pass is $30 and can be purchased at the Sussex Civic Center or online through the Village's Community Portal (new users will have to create an account).
