• Community Development Director: Help facilitate growth throughout the Village and to bolster the Village’s economic development efforts. The Community Development Director will lead a team charged with implementing the Village’s economic development, zoning code enforcement, land use planning, and building inspection functions. The position requires graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in economic development, planning, or similar field. A master’s degree is preferred. Five years of progressively responsible work experience in a related position and supervisory experience is required. A comparable amount of work experience may be considered in lieu of education.

• Part-time Firefighter/Paramedic or Firefighter/EMT: Positions are part-time paid-on-premise. Shifts are 12 hours (06:00-18:00 and 18:00-06:00) and there is a weekend/holiday commitment. Part-time positions are limited to (2) 12-hour shifts per week (24 hours total). In addition to a competitive wage, additional benefits include access to on-site workout facility while on-duty, fully furnished living quarters, and training opportunities.

• Site Supervisor: This position supports rentals at the Civic Center and The Grove. This part-time position offers weekend hours with no set schedule, allowing employees to choose the shifts that fit their availability. Site Supervisors assist renters during events, help with building setup and supplies, and perform light cleaning and facility upkeep. It's an ideal opportunity for someone looking to earn extra income while enjoying a highly flexible schedule.

• Group Fitness Instructor to provide group exercise fitness instruction and supervision in variety of formats including yoga, strength training, cardiovascular exercise. Instructors should be certified in the format they are teaching. Candidates must be able to instruct multiple fitness levels and ensure the safety of all patrons in the class.

• Tumbling Instructor to lead our Grown Up + Me (parent/child) and Introduction to Tumbling classes for ages 2-5. Instructors will guide participants through various movement activities and games in a safe, fun environment. Class curriculum development and management is required, and experience in gymnastics/tumbling is desired.

• Tennis Coordinator: Lead fun and engaging tennis programs for the Village of Sussex Parks & Recreation Department. In this role, you’ll plan, organize, and run tennis activities that bring players together and create a high quality experience on the court. Must be 18 years or older.

Touch A Truck presented by Lannon Stone Foundation

When: Saturday, September 12 | 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Where: Armory Park

Get ready for one of Sussex's most popular family events! Touch A Truck 2026, presented by Lannon Stone Foundation, gives kids—and anyone who loves big trucks—the chance to get up close with an impressive lineup of vehicles.

This FREE event is geared toward kids ages 2–8, but there's something for truck fans of all ages. Food trucks will also be on site.

Please note that a portion of Maple Avenue in front of Armory Park will be closed for the event. A detour will be in place, and event entrance will be from Maple Avenue north of Maple Grove Lane only. Crossing guards will be available to help pedestrians safely cross Armory Road.

Pints in the Park

When: Thursday, September 17 | 5–8 p.m.
Where: Spring Green Park

Grab some friends and enjoy an evening in the park! Pints in the Park features craft beer and seltzers from Brewfinity Brewing Company along with onsite food trucks and live music.

Bring your appetite and enjoy a relaxed evening with your neighbors at Spring Green Park.

Curbside Brush Collection Begins September 8

The Village of Sussex is working to help residents impacted by the August 18 storms clean up storm-related brush and debris. While the storm damage was not widespread enough to warrant a separate Village-wide storm debris collection, the Village is moving up the start of its fall brush collection to September 8 to provide residents with an earlier opportunity to dispose of storm-related brush.

Collection will begin on Tuesday, September 8, and will continue until crews have completed one full pass through the Village. Residents should have their brush at the curb by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. Because crews will make only one pass, brush placed out after crews have already passed an area will not be collected.

Brush includes twigs and branches from trees and bushes. Branches may be no more than 8 inches in diameter and should be placed close to the street with the cut ends facing the curb.

Leaves and grass clippings are not collected as part of brush collection.

Missed collection or need to dispose of brush at another time? Brush can be taken to the Yard Waste Collection Site at the Woodland Nature Preserve with a valid Yard Waste Pass or Punch Card.

We Want Your Tree!

Be the pride of Sussex this holiday season!

The Village is looking for a donated evergreen tree to serve as the community Christmas tree in the Civic Center Plaza.

Trees should:

• Be at least 30 feet tall
• Look good from all sides
• Be easily accessible for removal
