We're Hiring!

• Community Development Director: Help facilitate growth throughout the Village and to bolster the Village’s economic development efforts. The Community Development Director will lead a team charged with implementing the Village’s economic development, zoning code enforcement, land use planning, and building inspection functions. The position requires graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in economic development, planning, or similar field. A master’s degree is preferred. Five years of progressively responsible work experience in a related position and supervisory experience is required. A comparable amount of work experience may be considered in lieu of education.

• Water Operator: Perform water plant maintenance, lab work, distribution system maintenance, water meter installation and more. Possession of a valid Wisconsin Municipal waterworks operator certification in Groundwater and Distribution is preferred. The successful candidate must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License as well as a Class B CDL with airbrakes or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.

• Full-time Firefighter/Paramedic: Shifts are 48 hours on and 96 hours off. The estimated annual working hours are 2,737 in comparison to 2,900+ in many other fire departments. The Village offers a competitive wage and insurance package (health, dental, and vision), paid vacation and sick time, and participates in the retirement program through the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).

• Part-time Firefighter/Paramedic or Firefighter/EMT: Positions are part-time paid-on-premise. Shifts are 12 hours (06:00-18:00 and 18:00-06:00) and there is a weekend/holiday commitment. Part-time positions are limited to (2) 12-hour shifts per week (24 hours total). In addition to a competitive wage, additional benefits include access to on-site workout facility while on-duty, fully furnished living quarters, and training opportunities.

• Group Fitness Instructor to provide group exercise fitness instruction and supervision in variety of formats including yoga, strength training, cardiovascular exercise. Instructors should be certified in the format they are teaching. Candidates must be able to instruct multiple fitness levels and ensure the safety of all patrons in the class.

• Tumbling Instructor to lead our Grown Up + Me (parent/child) and Introduction to Tumbling classes for ages 2-5. Instructors will guide participants through various movement activities and games in a safe, fun environment. Class curriculum development and management is required, and experience in gymnastics/tumbling is desired.

• Tennis Coordinator: Lead fun and engaging tennis programs for the Village of Sussex Parks & Recreation Department. In this role, you’ll plan, organize, and run tennis activities that bring players together and create a high quality experience on the court. Must be 18 years or older. Learn More!

• Dance Instructor: We’re looking for an energetic dance teacher to inspire and educate young dancers (ages 4-12) in hip-hop and/or pom and jazz dance! Classes are typically held in the evenings during the week with about three classes per night, but we will be flexible for the right candidate. Classes run September through March, with our recital held at the beginning of March. There may be opportunities to continue teaching with our summer program for the right candidate.

The Ridge at Village Park Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting presented by Exterior Pros, PowerTest, and Sussex Area Service Club

Join us for the grand opening celebration of The Ridge at Village Park presented by Exterior Pros!

The Ridge at Village Park replaces the 1986 shelter with a modern pavilion featuring an indoor rental space of approximately 2,000 square feet, complete with a concession stand. In addition, the outdoor area will span over 8,500 square feet, making it suitable for events of various sizes. A detached covered stage will provide a versatile venue for the multitude of community special events held in our park each year.

The grand opening event will feature:

• Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 6:45 p.m.

• Live Music by Boogie and the Yo-Yoz from 7 to 9 p.m.

America Turns 250 - And We're Celebrating!

Free Flag Giveaway | We're giving away 250 flags in honor of America's 250th birthday! Pick yours up between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Sussex Civic Center, while supplies last. Bring your flag to show your patriotic spirit at our upcoming events.

4th of July Community Parade | This year, we're going bigger! In honor of our nation's 250th birthday, we're transforming our beloved Kiddie Parade into a full Community Parade — open to all ages. Dress in your most patriotic gear and march with us down Main Street to The Grove at Village Park, where free ice cream, playground fun, and the splashpad await!

• 9:15 a.m. Decorate yourself, your bike, scooter, cozy coupe or whatever you choose, to ride in our Kiddie parade. Line up in the Civic Center parking lot. No registration required.

• 9:30 a.m. Kiddie Parade starts. Participants in the parade march west on Main Street to The Grove at Village Park. Spectators are encouraged to join us along Main Street!

• 10 a.m. Celebrate your arrival at The Grove after the parade with ICE CREAM! Bring your swimsuit and cool off at the splash pad!

Fireworks Show | NEW this year, our fireworks display will be set to music, making this Independence Day spectacular even more unforgettable!

• 9:00 p.m.   Patriotic background music will be played to round out this unforgettable day!

• 9:20 p.m.   The full fireworks display can be viewed from the hill in front of The Ridge Pavilion in Sussex Village Park.

Pauline Haass Public Library Presents: America 250 Lineage Societies to Celebrate Patriotism | July 16th, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. - In the 1890s it became a trend to claim a Revolutionary War Patriot and join a society that represented your Americanism, such as the Daughters of the American Revolution. Find out about the history of these organizations and what they meant then and now.

In-person Absentee Voting for the Partisan Primary Election Begins July 28

In-Person Absentee Voting for the August 11 Partisan Primary Election takes place July 28-August 7 (weekdays only) at the Sussex Civic Center. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. M-F.

An acceptable photo ID is required to cast an in-person absentee ballot.

We Want Your Tree!

Be the pride of Sussex for the holiday season with your tree in the Civic Center plaza! The tree must be at least 30 feet tall, look good from all angles, and be easily accessed for removal by the Village. If you can donate a tree, please call us at (262) 246-5200.
