Yard Waste Site Opens April 4

The Sussex Yard Waste Site opens for the season at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 4. The site will be open on Saturdays only until May 4, which is the first Monday opening. To use the Yard Waste Site, you must purchase either a punch card ($10/five punches) or an Annual Pass ($30). Purchase your Annual Pass online. Punch cards can be purchased at the Civic Center or Pauline Haass Public Library. Learn more about the Yard Waste Site, including hours of operation and items accepted.

 

Spring General Election: April 7

  • In-person Absentee Voting at the Civic Center through 5 p.m. Friday, April 3. (Civic Center offices are closed on April 3; however, the main reception desk on first floor will be open for Absentee Voting only.)
  • On Election Day (April 7) the polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sussex Civic Center (N64W23760 Main Street). 

The State of Wisconsin requires a photo ID to vote. You will need to show an acceptable photo ID to vote at your polling place. If you have questions, call the Clerk's office at (262) 246-5200.

Resident Registration for Summer Recreation Programs Starts April 6

Resident registration for summer recreation programs opens at 9 a.m. Monday, April 6. The Summer Activity Guide can be viewed on our website. Non-Resident registration begins at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 9. Programs start May 4.

Spring Lobby Party for Adults Over 50: April 8

For Adults Over 50: Join us in the Civic Center lobby for seasonal treats and a burst of springtime fun! Wear your brightest spring colors; there's a prize for the Most Festive Outfit. Go all out with florals, pastels or seasonal flair!

 

Spring Hydrant Flushing: April 13-17 & 20-24

Hydrant flushing removes sediment and maintains clarity and quality in the water distribution pipes. Water may become discolored after hydrant flushing. If this happens, run your cold water tap for a few minutes until the water clears. If the water doesn’t clear the first time, wait a few minutes and run the water again. Avoid washing clothes until the water clears.

 

Arbor Day Animal Hunt: April 15-29

Celebrate Arbor Day 2026 with an outdoor adventure! Explore Village of Sussex parks to find hidden animal signs, then match each animal to the correct park on your entry form. Complete your form and bring it to the Civic Center before April 30 to be entered to win a prize basket in the April 30 drawing! (Use the drop box after hours and on weekends.) It’s the perfect way to enjoy spring, get outside, and discover the wild side of Sussex Parks!

Drop off unused and expired prescription medications and needles/sharps for proper disposal by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and Sussex Metro Market pharmacy staff. Waukesha County Sheriff's Department Cadet Post 6700 will have a brat fry during the event.

  • Summer 2026 Seasonal Parks & Rec Staff: We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic staff to lead exciting activities for our campers ages 6–12, and to help keep our parks beautiful. These are seasonal positions working May through August. Learn More! **Full-time seasonal employees may enroll up to two children in the Village of Sussex day camp program for free.**
  • Communications and Engagement Coordinator: Play a key role in shaping how we connect with residents, businesses, and stakeholders through digital media, storytelling, and public engagement. We’re looking for someone who can think strategically, write clearly, design creatively, and build meaningful connections that strengthen trust and transparency within our growing community.
  • Full-time Cleaner: The Village seeks a reliable, skilled Cleaner to provide a clean and safe environment for its public buildings. The work schedule for this position is Sunday night through Thursday night for an 8-hour shift with a flexible start time between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. (with a 30-minute dinner break).
  • Part-time Event Supervisor: Support a series of community events.  This part-time, temporary position is ideal for someone who enjoys interacting with the public, problem-solving on the spot, and ensuring events run smoothly from start to finish.
  • Group Fitness Instructor to provide group exercise fitness instruction and supervision in variety of formats including yoga, strength training, cardiovascular exercise. Instructors should be certified in the format they are teaching. Candidates must be able to instruct multiple fitness levels and ensure the safety of all patrons in the class.
  • Tumbling Instructor to lead our Grown Up + Me (parent/child) and Introduction to Tumbling classes for ages 2-5. Instructors will guide participants through various movement activities and games in a safe, fun environment. Class curriculum development and management is required, and experience in gymnastics/tumbling is desired.
  • Tennis Coordinator: Lead fun and engaging tennis programs for the Village of Sussex Parks & Recreation Department. In this role, you’ll plan, organize, and run tennis activities that bring players together and create a high quality experience on the court. Must be 18 years or older. Learn More!
  • Youth Tennis Instructor: Assist the Tennis Coordinator with the planning, organization and implementation of weekly tennis activities to create a high-quality experience for every player. Tennis knowledge and experience required. Applicants must be 14 years or older.
  • Dance Instructor: We’re looking for an energetic dance teacher to inspire and educate young dancers (ages 4-12) in hip-hop and/or pom and jazz dance! Classes are typically held in the evenings during the week with about three classes per night, but we will be flexible for the right candidate. Classes run September through March, with our recital held at the beginning of March. There may be opportunities to continue teaching with our summer program for the right candidate.
  • Full-time Firefighter/Paramedic: Shifts are 48 hours on and 96 hours off. The estimated annual working hours are 2,737 in comparison to 2,900+ in many other fire departments. The Village offers a competitive wage and insurance package (health, dental, and vision), paid vacation and sick time, and participates in the retirement program through the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS). 
  • Part-time Firefighter/Paramedic or Firefighter/EMT: Positions are part-time paid-on-premise. Shifts are 12 hours (06:00-18:00 and 18:00-06:00) and there is a weekend/holiday commitment. Part-time positions are limited to (2) 12-hour shifts per week (24 hours total). In addition to a competitive wage, additional benefits include access to on-site workout facility while on-duty, fully furnished living quarters, and training opportunities.

    Sussex Area Rummage Sale: Friday & Saturday, May 1 & 2

    Participate in the Sussex Area Rummage Sale Presented by Julie Braden-First Weber Realtors and reduce clutter around the house. For the low cost of $5, your rummage sale will be included on the Sussex-Area Rummage Listing containing the location of each sale and a short description of items for sale. The deadline to secure a spot on the listing is Wednesday, April 23. Register Online. The map and address listing will be available April 27 at the Sussex Civic Center and the Village website.

     

    Electronics Recycling Drop-off Event:

    Saturday, May 2
    10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon)

    The Village will host an electronics recycling drop-off event in the Civic Center parking lot on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon). Accepted items include: Computers and related equipment/parts, cell phones, stereos, microwaves, copiers, video game players, fax machines, LED, LCD and CRT TVs.  Complete List of Accepted Items

    Note:  A fee applies to ALL TVs/monitors:

    • Monitors: $5
    • TV: $25
    • Console TV: $40

Each year, the Sussex Water Utility provides its customers with a water quality report to let them know how our water quality meets federal and state drinking water standards.
